The Watersafe® Rapid Bacteria Test is an antibody-based test kit for detecting the presence of bacteria in water, including E. coli, Salmonella, Legionella, Pseudomonas, Shigella, Staphylococcus, Enterobacter, and many other coliform and non-coliform bacteria.

Kit Components

  • Test Strip
  • Test Vial
  • Disposable Pipette
  • Desiccant (to be discarded)

Precautions and Warnings

  • Do not open foil pouch prior to use
  • Do not reuse any components of the test

Storage

  • Store at room temperature (10-30°C/50-86°F)
  • Do not use after expiration date on packaging

Sample Type

  • Freshwater (up to 4000ppm salt). Do not use in sea/ocean water.

Step # 1

Using the pipette, add five (5) drops of sample into the Test Vial.

Step # 2

Make sure all liquid is at the bottom of the Test Vial by swirling it and tapping the Test Vial gently on a flat surface.

Step # 3

Wait 5 minutes.

Step # 4

Swirl Test Vial gently again. This step is essential for proper detection.

Check visually to ensure that water has become pink or light-red in color.

Step # 5

Place Test Strip into Test Vial with arrows pointing down. Wait 10 minutes. Do not disturb the Test Strip or Test Vial during this time.

Step # 6

Take Test Strip out of Test Vial and interpret the results.

Positive Result

Test Line (1) and Control Line (2) are present. If any color develops in the Test Line (1), the result is positive.

Faint lines are valid results.

Invalid Result

If control line (2) does not develop color, the result is invalid – repeat test.

IF THE TEST IS POSITIVE, YOUR WATER SAMPLE MAY CONTAIN BACTERIA LEVELS THAT ARE DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH.

Interpreting the Results

Negative Result

Only Control Line (2) develops color; no bacteria detected.
